Field Notes #3

Field Notes Series Part 1: The Loom Effect

Loom Says I’m a Top 3% Editor. I Was Just Trying to Help My Client.

I logged into Loom the other day and it casually informed me I’m in the Top 3% of Editors.

Excuse me?
I didn’t submit an application. I didn’t train for this. I wasn’t even aware there was a competition.

But apparently… Loom has been watching 👀

And here’s the thing: these are not award-winning productions. There’s no fancy lighting, no cinematic music, no single flawless take. What there is? Real-life usage. Repetition. Editing multiple clips into one clear story because real estate doesn’t happen in one clean shot.

Lately, I’ve been doing preview video tours for an out-of-town buyer. I record myself driving into neighborhoods, narrating the vibe, pointing out parks and traffic patterns. I show trim, baseboards, tile, garages, basements, backyards. I talk about how a house feels. Sometimes I’m underwhelmed. Sometimes I’m delighted. I say both.

Those tours are never one take. They’re stitched together between lockboxes, basements, and backing out of driveways. Loom makes that easy. I upload clips in order, edit them into one story, trim the nonsense, and send a single link.

The result?
I made 11 preview tours. My client chose 4 homes to see in person. We’re now under contract.

That’s when it clicked: Loom didn’t reward polish. It rewarded consistent storytelling in the field.

This isn’t content creation. It’s asynchronous trust. It’s helping clients decide without pressure, without wasted time, and without being physically present for every step.

So yeah — I guess I got an award.
Not for being fancy.
For showing up, narrating honestly, and editing real life into clarity.

Next Field Note, I’ll share what I actually say in these tours — the phrases that help clients decide faster and with more confidence.

Below, I get techy and explain the features I like about using Loom for the purpose of video tours.

Why Loom Works So Well for Preview Video Tours

What makes this process so effective isn’t just that I’m using video — it’s how Loom supports real, in-the-field storytelling without adding friction.

Here’s what I love most about using Loom this way:

  • Vertical video just works.
I can record vertically, upload vertically, and Loom preserves the orientation — which matters because most clients are watching on their phones.

  • Multiple clips → one clear story.
I can upload all my short clips at once, in the order I recorded them, then stitch them together into a single, cohesive “Property Tour.” No complicated editing workflow required.

  • Easy trimming, zero fuss.
I can quickly cut out the random, unnecessary moments without overthinking it. These aren’t cinematic videos — they’re honest, helpful ones.

  • Automatic transcripts = instant leverage.
Loom generates a transcript of the finished video, which I then run through ChatGPT to:

    • create a clean summary of the tour

    • highlight pros and cons based on what I actually said

    • and drop that summary right into the Loom description

  • Beautiful sharing, especially by text and email.
The Loom link generates a gorgeous animated GIF preview:

    • in text messages

    • and automatically in Gmail, complete with the video title and summary
It feels polished without me doing extra work.

  • Built-in feedback + engagement.
I can see when a video’s been watched, and clients can react or comment — which turns a one-way tour into a conversation.

  • Default 1.2x playback speed (thank you, Loom).
It makes longer tours feel faster and less tedious, and viewers can adjust speed if they want.
